Dr Vasavi Acharya from beautiful place Guwahati a multitasker, highly educated had a dream to work for children ,a mentor and social activist fulfilled all her dreams and now running a chain of Pre nursery schools by the name Tender Petals .
Dr. Vasavvi Acharya a recipient of Iconic International Women of the World by SDP IAWA AWARDS 2021, is an early childhood expert, edupreneur, trainer, mentor, social activist, author, child rights enthusiast, a painter and a vlogger.
She is a graduate of Miranda House, Delhi University and after completing her PG she returned to her hometown Guwahati in Assam. She started pursing her LLB degree from GU and at the same time set up a preschool by the name Sishubon, and that was way back in 2002. At that time, she was 22 years young.
A girl with many dreams she had ample career options to choose from. After finishing her LLB. studies and practising law for a short duration Dr. Vasavvi, decided to give in to her heart’s calling -‘a career in early childhood education’.. As destiny had planned it, she got serious about her school venture. However, like all entrepreneurs she had her share of hiccups. Competition in the market was high as too many preschools started to sprout and even national brands started to show up in North East India. Around that time, she had had also decided to tie the knot to her long-time friend Debajit, in the year 2005. In the initial years of marriage, the inability to strike a work life balance, led her to concentrate more on my family than in her school and well it was clearly visible to her that she was nowhere near her success story. Time flew in a jiffy and soon they were blessed with a baby boy, and that was probably a turning point in her life in terms of her career graph, that finally took an upward tilt. Well, it was not a cake walk from there by any means, but maybe she was more comfortable to take on from there, with a stronger footing through her past experiences and learnings. Since then, there was no looking back.
Sishubon spread into branches and in 2013, Dr. Vasavvi launched her brainchild, Tender Petals chain of preschools. Tender Petals has its presence in NE India and Jharkhand and is running many successful centres.Tender Petals has been featured in FORBES GTPS issue Great Indian Preschools 2019 and has bagged many awards and accolades.
Dr. Vasavvi’s passion for teaching landed her at TISS Guwahati, as a trainer which she thoroughly enjoyed for 2 long years, a job she eventually gave up due to time constraints."
Life is not about procuring, it is equally about giving back."With a vision to reach out to children from the marginalised sections of the society and at the same time empowering women, Dr. Vasavvi founded the DN Acharya Foundation for Children and Women Development. The NGO did a lot of meaningful work in rural Assam.
In 2019, an initiative of DNA Foundation was set in motion, by the name Early Child Development Forum (ECDF). ECDF essentially works with the little angels who are not so fortunate to receive quality ECCE. The projects are done through its fund-raising activities, events and conferences. ECDF has it chapters in many parts of India and oversees, as well.
Vasavvi is the editor of Ed CLAN the quarterly educational journal of ECDF.In 2018, she released her maiden book 'The First 5 Years,~demystifying the crucial period of parenting.'
Besides a passion for education, Vasavvi shares an equal zeal for women emancipation and has been associated with organisations like Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Dhriiti Her & Now, FICCI Flo etc that work for women entrepreneurs.
